Vacation!

We just got back from a wonderful trip to Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC. It is so nice to get away. I have created a slideshow with some pictures from our trip, but I wanted to tell you more about it. We started in Savannah. We stayed at the Thunderbird Inn. It is a renovated 50s style hotel. It was great. We were just to the side of the Historic district. The room was nice, really contemporary decor. We enjoyed walking around the riverfront where there were shops, restaurants and nice parks. We did a hop on/hop off trolley tour of the town. This allowed us to tour the city, but also be able to get on and off when we wanted. The best part of vacation is the food, of course. We ate at 2 English Pubs, Churchill's and The Six Pence Pub. Both were great. We ate lunch at Dockside on the river and dinner at The Mellow Mushroom.

I have always seen ghost tours advertised in these historic cities, and we decided to take one. Not just any tour though, this was in a old hearse. The back had been converted to hold 8 seats and we actually were looking above the car. It was neat. We rode around the city at night and were told stories of some things that had happened in homes and hotels. After hearing some of these stories, I will not be staying in those hotels.

We took a day trip out to Ft. Pulaski and Tybee Island. The fort was cool. There are still many holes in the walls from cannon fire during the Civil War. Tybee Island was good to see. We ate lunch and walked on the beach.

On the way to Charleston we stopped by the Tanger Outlets near Hilton Head. This is one of my favorite places to shop. We also visit the outlets in Myrtle Beach and Blowing Rock. Great deals.

While in Charleston, we stayed at the Best Western on the edge of town. It was ok. We did have to move rooms because our AC unit was incredibally loud. But that was ok. We ate at Hyman's Seafood the first night. I ordred the flounder and it was huge. I have never had it like that with the bones, tail and all (no head). Simon had Salmon, he is not a huge fan of seafood. We took a carriage tour of the city. We grabbed some lunch and took it on the ferry to Ft. Sumpter. It was a nice day to be at the fort because it was a little overcast.

Dog Days of Summer

Today my mom and I went to get pedicures. Simon went to get a haircut and Lexie and my dad walked uptown. The rest of us met them uptown for the Pig Parade. I didn't get any pictures of that, sorry. Lexie wasn't too excited about all the noise some of the trucks. When she got home she had to check the drainpipes and the tree. She must have seen something go up the tree because she sat at the bottom of the tree waiting for it to come down. As you can see from the pictures she is very patient. She will probably stay out there all day. What a life a dog has.

Hair today, gone tomorrow

Well finally I got a haircut. I got close to 9 inches cut off. I chose to donate it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. They use the donated hair to make wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments. I couldn't tell you the last time I got my hair cut, so I can't tell you how long it took me to grow it out. So what do you think of the new do? I will have to get used to having shorter hair. I am looking forward to not having so much hair to dry in the mornings. With summer approaching, I am starting to sweat while drying my hair. Not fun after you have just showered.

The Bar

We finally completed the bar area of our back porch. We painted the porch last year and got new bar chairs and a new light. This is Simon area. You can see the dart board, the goftballs and his Guiness sign. About a month ago Simon had his first tiling experience. He put ceramic tile on the top of the bar. We went to Lowe's one night and asked someone what we would need to tile and he filled up the cart for us. We ended up taking back somethings we did not use. It turned out really nice. Simon did a great job.

Gifts on the Porch

We gave mom a chicken fryer. It was exactally what she wanted.

Mom got a nice shirt and a silver bracelet from David and Ashley for Mother's Day.

I got a beautiful necklace from David and Ashley for my Birthday.

Happy Birthday, Anniversary, and Mother's Day

Later on Saturday we all went to have lunch at Childress Winery to celebrate my Birthday, David and Ashley's Anniversary and Mother's Day. It was a nother beautiful day at the vineyards.

Saturday May 10th

Simon and I finally got our garden ready to plant some veges. We usually grow the veges from seed, but this year we decided to buy plants that have already been started. We turned over the dirt and added some dirt from the composter. It did not smell good. I hope it is good for the plants. Simon about lost his breakfast due to the smell.

We planted Squash, Zucchini, Cucumbers, yellow and orange Peppers, and lettuce. We have strawberries, rasberries, and blackberries coming back from previous years. Of course while we were working in the garden Lexie was watching out for the chipmunks. All during the summer she has to check all of the drainpipes in the back yard to make sure there are no chipmunks in them. And if there are, she will wait all day for them to come out. Saturday she decided to try to dig under the drainpipe to see if she could get to the chipmunks any easier. All she did was make a mess in the flowerbed.

I turned 30 and survived!

Well, it finally happened. I turned 30. I have been dreading this since my 29th birthday. It wasn't too bad. Of course I am older than Simon now, but he will catch up soon. My dad tells me this is my 31st year, not my 30th. I disagree. He argued with me until I mentioned that meant that he would finish his 60th year in November and begin his 61st. He agreed to see it my way.

I had a wonderful day. I walked uptown to have breakfast with my parents and Lexie. Simon had to work late the night before so he slept in. We had lunch at Childress Winery with my parents. Simon took me to Saigon's, which is a Vietnamese Restaurant in Greensboro, for dinner. It was great Day.
